Supervision is recognised as a key part of personal and professional development for professionals working in the helping professions, such as Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs), and is an effective way that schools can support the capacity and effectiveness of ELSAs. In the context of this, ELSAs require regular supervision (1x half termly) from Educational Psychologists to retain their titles and practice effectively and ethically as ELSAs. This should take place in addition to management supervision from a nominated member of staff in school (e.g. SENDCO) to support ELSAs in their day-to-day work.
ELSA supervision takes place half termly for two hours in groups of between 6-8 ELSAs. It is facilitated by an Educational Psychologist using a secure video platform (e.g. Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet). ELSA supervision provides ELSAs with an opportunity to:
Share casework and reflect on this through the use of supervision approaches and psychological perspectives;
Enable further professional development and training, including in areas not covered in the initial ELSA training;
Share relevant and useful information and resources;
Provide peer support and development;
Collaboratively problem-solve and set action plans relevant to ELSA practice;
ELSA supervision with Lighthouse Psychology is £300 per ELSA for 6x supervision sessions (1x half-termly across the academic year). This includes access to the ELSA Hub and ELSA Forum. Additional 1:1 supervision with an Educational Psychologist can be arranged through Lighthouse Psychology on a needs basis and costs £100 per hour.
We pride ourselves on delivering training content and supervision supported by evidence, research and scientific principles.
